THE CALIFORNIA AQUEDUCT

The history, features, and operation of the California Aqueduct are described.

The main stem of the California Aqueduct consists of 385 miles of concrete-lined open canal and 59 miles of tunnels, siphons, and pipelines. It transports up to 3 million acre feet of water each year to SWP urban and agricultural users. It also includes information about biking along the California Aqueduct.

EDMONSTON PUMPING PLANT

Edmonston Pumping Plant lifts water higher than any other single lift pumping plant in the world—almost 2,000 feet up the Tehachapi Mountains— through a series of tunnels into Southern California.

The brochure discusses the plant’s design, its seismic safety features, and availability for tours.
