Castaic Lake and Lagoon

Castaic Lake provides emergency storage
in the event of a shutdown of the SWP to the north, regulatory storage during
normal operations, fish and wildlife enhancement, and recreation. It is
located 45 miles northwest of Los Angeles. |

Castaic Lagoon, downstream of Castaic Dam, provides additional
recreation and serves as a recharge basin for the downstream water basin.

The area offers fishing, boating,
waterskiing, camping, sailing, picnicking, and
swimming. |

Both the lake and lagoon are stocked regularly
with trout by the Department of Fish and Game. Other fish caught include
large- and smallmouth bass, catfish, and crappie. |
The Castaic Lake State Recreation Area is operated by the
Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation; 32132 Ridge Route Road,
Castaic, CA 91310; (805) 257-4050.
Directions: Exit Interstate 5 at Hughes Lakes Road, 41 miles northeast
of downtown Los Angeles. From Ventura, it is 51 miles to Castaic Lake via
Highway 126 and I-5.
