Castaic Lake provides emergency storage in the event of a shutdown of the SWP to the north, regulatory storage during normal operations, fish and wildlife enhancement, and recreation. It is located 45 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

Castaic Lagoon, downstream of Castaic Dam, provides additional recreation and serves as a recharge basin for the downstream water basin.

jet skiier on the water The area offers fishing, boating, waterskiing, camping, sailing, picnicking, and swimming.
fisherman standing on the shore Both the lake and lagoon are stocked regularly with trout by the Department of Fish and Game. Other fish caught include large- and smallmouth bass, catfish, and crappie.

The Castaic Lake State Recreation Area is operated by the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation; 32132 Ridge Route Road, Castaic, CA 91310; (805) 257-4050.

Directions:
  Exit Interstate 5 at Hughes Lakes Road, 41 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles. From Ventura, it is 51 miles to Castaic Lake via Highway 126 and I-5.
