Note: Because of extensive fire damage to the surrounding watershed, the lake is closed until spring 2004. However, fishing is still permitted from the dam area and visitors are welcome to watch the eagles that return each year.

Located within San Bernardino National Forest, Silverwood Lake is a multipurpose project that provides a major water source for agencies serving nearby mountain and desert areas. Some 2,400 acres of recreation land surround the lake.

Operated by the California Department of Parks and Recreation, the Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area offers camping, picnicking, boating, waterskiing, fishing, swimming, biking, and hiking.

The Department of Parks and Recreation office is located at 14651 Cedar Circle; Hesperia, CA 92345-9799; (760) 389-2303.

Directions:  Via Highway 138, 11 miles east of I-15 or 20 miles north of San Bernardino via Highways 18 & 138.
