 Vista del Lago Visitors Center
View With a sweeping vista of Pyramid Lake from its wrap-around balcony, the Vista del Lago Visitors Center is DWR’s largest information center.
Display Your water journey there starts with a visual display of how much water is used in everything we touch and eat. Weigh yourself and find out how much of your body is water. Learn how water is used in the home, on the farm, and in industries.
Map Room

Move on to the giant map-room where you’ll watch a video presentation projected on a huge map of California. You’ll view how the state’s geography affects where water is and how it is transported to areas without abundant supplies.

Exhibit

Then explore the California State Water Project via a three-dimensional exhibit that displays its facilities from beginning to end, the distances between them, and the time it takes water to flow from one facility to another. See the big tools used to build the nation’s largest state-built water and power development system, and picture yourself at the bottom of the 444-mile-long California Aqueduct.

Visitors can then learn about the events that shaped California’s water history, read about today’s issues that will affect their lives, and take flight over the State Water Project via the video, "Wings Over Water."

Also, see how water is treated by The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. Walk through a forest and learn about a watershed and it's residents from the U.S. Forest Service.

The Vista del Lago Visitor Center, open daily 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day, is located on Interstate Highway 5, between the cities of Castaic and Gorman (There is a separate "Vista del Lago" off-ramp in north and south directions). Free admission. For more information, call (661) 294-0219.
